I've seen Careful, Brand upon the Brain!, Archangel and The Heart of the World. Out of those, Brand upon the Brain has had the most profound effect on my brain activity.

The Saddest Music in the World

I saw Archangel under memorable circumstances. Apart from "The Heart of the World", it was the first Maddin I'd ever seen, and it left a huge impact on me.

Brand Upon the Brain left me the most dazed and wondering what just happened, but I really loved My Winnipeg.

It's hard to pick .... I first saw "Tales from the Gimli Hospital" stoned out of my mind in a squat in Osborne Village (I live in Winnipeg) in my teens so understandably my first exposure is also my most disturbing .....

Unlike a lot of people I know "Twilight ..." holds an extremely dear place in my heart but I also adore "Saddest Music ..." (it makes me laugh the most of all of them for some reason).

But my most recent favourite (I think the moral is that I cycle through all of Guy Maddin's works as favourites) is My Winnipeg though. I think about it every day at one particular point on my bus route to school. ;)

THE HEART OF THE WORLD is epic in everything but length.

I've seen The Saddest Music in the World, Brand Upon the Brain, and Cowards Bend the Knee and have to say Brand Upon the Brain is my hands down favorite. What a wonderfully profane and bizarre experience!

Archangel is there for me too, I suppose because I love that tentative marriage between image and sound.

The Eye Like a Strange Balloon is wonderful.
